Breeding selection and objectives

The Organisation for the Selection of the Normande breed is in charge of the study of the breed under all its aspects in sight in particular to determine the model, to specify the orientation and to define the program of selection " (decree 69-667 of June 14th, 1969).
As such, it balances the characters looked for inside the index of synthesis UPRA ( ISU) which represents the final objective of selection of the race. She(it) certifies the zootechniques references collected in the livestocks of the base of selection and delivers the qualifications defined by the technical regulation(payment) (Norman Elite, Norman origin, Reproductive Norman).

The technicians in Norman race assure the systematic checking of the animals of the breedings members the body of selection in Norman race. She proposes two levels of services to her members:

The simple service:

· Distribution of the balance sheet and the genetic inventory
· Qualification of females
· Visit advice(council) of your Norman technician
· Subscription to the magazine Norman Vision

The elaborated service (as a supplement to the simple service):

Genealogical book

The racial database is the alive memory of the Norman. She(it) uses the average contemporaries of the data processing, and she answers the current conceptions of the quantitative genetics. Installed on the site of the ARSOE of Caen, the genealogical book lists more than two million animals with their characteristics, accessible permanently to the selectors, the breeders and the bodies.

Animation, development and marketing

The OS in Norman race centralizes all the statistical, technical or economic information concerning the race. It informs the breeders about it and the users through its range of communications tools:

· The quarterly magazine Norman Vision
· The biannual Norman newsletter Flash
· The technical documentation: product sheets, plaques crossing, index Norman bulls, board of couplings, table of checking,…
· The edition of balance sheets and genetic inventories

It assures the general promotion of the race by organizing or by participating in national in scope demonstrations and international: autumn trade shows (SPACE in Rennes and Summit of the breeding in Clermont-Ferrand), Norman National Competition (to Saint-Lô in 2009), Agricultural Competitive examination within the framework of the International Show of the Agriculture in Paris, Eurogenetic show to Épinal, show Aquitanima in Bordeaux.
